What we decline

Work Proghold Investment does not take on

  • We do not manage portfolios for businesses outside the technology sectors, however strong the commercial case looks on paper.
  • Seed-stage or pre-revenue ventures sit outside our remit, and we turn them down regardless of how promising the founding team appears.
  • We do not take majority stakes in companies where the existing founders are unwilling to stay through the transition period.
  • Turnaround mandates for distressed units are declined, because we are set up to grow portfolios rather than rescue them.
What exactly does a portfolio manager do for a technology holding company?

We handle capital allocation, group reporting, shared services and governance across the units in the portfolio, so operating teams can concentrate on their own products and customers. You keep day-to-day control of your business; we take the holding-level work.

Which sectors does Proghold Investment actually cover?

Software, hardware, data services and the technology-adjacent services that support them. If your business sits outside those areas, we are not the right partner and we will say so early rather than waste your time.

Do you take a controlling stake or a minority position?

Both can work, depending on the unit and the existing ownership. What matters more to us is whether the current management team intends to stay and grow the business alongside the wider portfolio.

How long does a typical review take from first contact to a decision?

An initial call usually happens soon after you get in touch, and a written view follows once we have seen your numbers and structure. Complex portfolios take longer, and we would rather be thorough than quick.

What happens to our staff and our existing management team?

Nothing automatic. We do not arrive with a pre-written reorganisation. Any change to roles or reporting lines is discussed openly with management first and tied to a clear reason that we are willing to put in writing.

Do you charge for the first conversation?

No. The initial call and our written view of portfolio fit are free, and there is no obligation to go further. You will only see costs once both sides decide to move into detailed diligence.
